Impact Windows in Bradenton Beach, FL

A Thin Strip Between Gulf and Sound

Bradenton Beach is the southern city on Anna Maria Island, squeezed between the Gulf of Mexico and Anna Maria Sound, and impact windows here protect homes with water close on both sides. The city covers about 1.19 square miles, and more than 56% of that is water. Across Longboat Pass to the south is Longboat Key; the Cortez Bridge links the city to the mainland at Cortez.

After Helene

When Hurricane Helene passed offshore in 2024, Bradenton Beach was reportedly 90% to 95% destroyed and was called a catastrophic area. Two weeks later Milton followed. Owners rebuilding now have a chance most homeowners never get: to choose stronger openings while the walls are open. That is the moment to set impact windows and doors correctly, with new bucks and fresh waterproofing.

Storm panels as a starting point

Not every owner can do every window at once. Storm panels are an approved, lower-cost way to protect openings:

  • Aluminum panels are lighter to carry; steel panels are heavier but stiffer
  • Tracks or studs are installed permanently around each opening
  • Panels need labeled, dry storage for the off-season
  • Someone must hang them before every storm

On a home that sits empty much of the year, that last point is the catch. Many owners use panels on less exposed openings and impact glass on the Gulf side.

A city of second homes

In 2020, Bradenton Beach had 1,769 housing units, and 1,246 of them were vacant on census day. Of those, 881 were held for seasonal or occasional use. The full-time population was 908. When the owner is far away, storm prep falls to a manager or a neighbor. Impact glass removes that step.

Island history

The area was first called Cortez Beach. The 1921 hurricane destroyed 80% of the bridge then under construction, the Longboat Pass bridge was swept away in 1932, and a concrete Cortez Bridge to the mainland opened in 1957. The city was incorporated in December 1952. Storms have shaped this place for a century.

Sizing for raised and rebuilt homes

Rebuilt homes on the island are often raised higher than the houses they replace, and windows that sit higher off the ground can face more wind pressure. When we quote a rebuilt home, we check the plans for the height of each opening and match each window's design pressure to it. If your architect or engineer has a window schedule, send it, and we will quote against it directly.

Bradenton Beach Questions

We are rebuilding after Helene. When should windows go in?

Once the framing and openings are set and before interior finishes. That lets us replace any damaged bucks and waterproof the openings properly.

Are storm panels still allowed?

Yes, when the panels and their mounting carry a valid product approval and are installed to it. They just require someone to put them up.

Steel or aluminum panels?

Aluminum is lighter and easier to handle and resists corrosion. Steel is stiffer but heavier and needs care in salt air.
